About Azure Acres Recovery

These walls, which are 100 years old, hold a lot of history. Our lodge was built in 1906. It was designed by Bernard Maybeck, a famous architect from the 20th century who is known for making some of the most beautiful buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Five families used the lodge as a vacation home for more than 60 years, until 1959, when it became an alcohol treatment center. Over the next 20 years, Azure Acres began to treat all kinds of drug and alcohol addiction. As time went on, their services became more comprehensive and tailored to each person.

In 1959, the U.S. flag had 49 stars, no one had been to the moon, and a computer was as big as a refrigerator. In the same year, Azure Acres in Sebastopol, California, took in its first person who needed help with an addiction. We have been helping people with addiction in Northern California for more than 60 years. One thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to the 12-Step principles and addiction recovery as a mind, body, and spirit workout.

At Azure Acres, we think that alcoholism and other forms of addiction are long-term, relapsing diseases that require people to stay away from drugs. For people who are addicted to drugs, trying to use them in a controlled way will always lead back to physical, mental, and spiritual pain.

We also think that abstinence alone is not enough to treat addiction as a disease. People must embrace the recovery process and commit to the principles and practices of the 12-Step model of recovery to see real and lasting change.

Lastly, our approach is based on the idea that for addiction treatment to be most effective, it must be a whole-person experience that takes into account the person’s mind, body, and spirit. Accepting ideas like “surrender,” “honesty,” “humility,” and “acceptance” is a key part of getting past the limits of drug use and other self-destructive behaviors.
